Privacy Policy
Last updated on 3 October 2026
Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what personal information GiGaSoftware Inc. (“we”, “us”) collects through Cognition (formerly Evolving Cognition) and its website, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can delete it.
Personal information is any information that identifies you, such as your name or email address, or that is linked to your account, such as the notes you write in the app.
Information We Collect
We collect only what Cognition needs to work. We use it to provide the app’s features and for nothing else. We do not use it for advertising and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Account Information
When you sign in with Google or Apple, that service shares your name, your email address and an account identifier with us. We create a Cognition user ID for your account. Sign in with Apple lets you hide your email address; if you do, we receive a private relay address instead.
Your Content
We store the content you create or upload so that you can use it across your devices:
- notes and note images, journal entries and bookmarks
- quizzes, quiz questions and question images, and your quiz results
- courses and other workspaces, their deadlines, and the syllabus files you upload
Content you add to a shared workspace is visible to that workspace’s members. Workspaces are joined by invitation code; Cognition has no public feed.
Purchases
If you subscribe to Cognition Pro, we receive your purchase history and the status of your subscription. We never receive your card or bank details.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a push-notification token for your device so that we can send deadline reminders. You can turn notifications off in the app’s settings or in your device settings.
Log Data
Our servers keep standard request logs, such as the IP address a request came from and the time it was made. We use them to keep the service secure and working, and not to build a profile of you.
Service Providers We Share Information With
We do not sell your personal information, and Cognition contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software. We share information only with the providers that run parts of the service for us, and only what each one needs:
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud host the app and our servers, store your account, content and files (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions, Firebase Hosting), and deliver push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
- Google (Gemini API) reads the syllabus files you upload so that Cognition can find your course’s deadlines.
- OpenAI receives the notes, note images and study material you ask Cognition to summarize, transcribe or turn into quiz questions, and returns the generated text.
- RevenueCat manages Cognition Pro subscriptions. It receives your Cognition user ID and your purchase and subscription history from the App Store, Google Play or our web checkout.
- Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play) process purchases made in the mobile apps, and Stripe processes card payments made on the web through RevenueCat. They handle your payment details under their own privacy policies.
- Apple and Google also provide sign-in, as described under Account Information.
- Algolia hosts a search index of quizzes that were published with the earlier Evolving Cognition app, including the publisher’s user ID and the quizzes’ subjects. Cognition does not publish quizzes. Deleting your account removes your published quizzes from the index.
- Canvas and Google Classroom, only if you choose to connect one of them: we receive your list of courses and their assignment due dates from that service.
We may also disclose personal information when the law requires it, to establish or defend our legal rights, or to an entity that acquires our business (see Business Transfers).
Connected AI Assistants
With Cognition Pro, you can connect an AI assistant you use, such as Claude or ChatGPT, to your Cognition account, so that it can work with your study material from the chat. Nothing is connected unless you sign in to Cognition from the assistant and approve the connection.
What an Assistant Can Read and Change
When you connect an assistant, Cognition shows the permissions it asks for, and you can turn any of them off. An assistant acts as you. It can reach only the workspaces you own or belong to, and only what you can reach in the app. With your permission, it can:
- see your name and email address;
- read your workspaces, notes, quizzes, quiz scores, deadlines, class schedule and journal;
- create and rename workspaces, join a workspace with a code you give it, create and edit notes, quizzes, deadlines and journal entries, make quizzes from your notes with Cognition’s AI, and save the results of quizzes you take in the chat;
- delete notes, quizzes and deadlines, and workspaces you own, but only with a separate permission to delete, which you can refuse.
You are asked to confirm an edit or a delete before it happens. A change to more than one record waits until you review it in the app. Each permission has a daily limit. An assistant cannot see your workspaces’ invitation codes, publish or share your work, change your subscription, or delete your account.
What Goes to the Assistant
Whatever your assistant reads from Cognition, such as a note, a quiz or your deadlines, is sent to that assistant. Its own provider runs it (for example, Anthropic runs Claude and OpenAI runs ChatGPT) and handles that content under its own privacy policy, not this one. Cognition sends it only because you connected the assistant, and only within the permissions you approved.
What Cognition Keeps
- The connection: the assistant’s name, the permissions you approved, when you connected it and when it was last used, and the sign-in tokens that keep the connection secure. These are kept until you disconnect it.
- An activity log: one entry for each request an assistant makes. It records which action the assistant took, which records it read or changed and how many, and whether the request succeeded. The log never holds your content or what you asked your assistant. It is kept for 90 days, and you can read it in the app.
- Undo copies: when an assistant changes or deletes a single record, Cognition keeps a copy of that record’s previous or deleted content on its servers for 7 days, so that you can undo the change from the activity log. Deleting a workspace and saving a quiz result keep no copy and cannot be undone. A copy holds content, not attachments, so files deleted with a note or quiz cannot be restored.
- Changes waiting for review: a change to more than one record, with what the assistant asked to change, is kept for 7 days so that you can approve or reject it in the app.
Disconnecting an Assistant
You can disconnect an assistant at any time from Settings → Connected AI in the app, and it loses access right away. Removing Cognition inside the assistant’s own app may leave the connection in place, so disconnect it in Cognition. The activity log stays for its 90 days, and a change made before you disconnected can still be undone within its 7 days. Deleting your account disconnects every assistant and deletes the connection, its activity log and its undo copies.
Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account in the app. After you confirm and sign in again, Cognition permanently deletes your account immediately. That includes your notes, journals, quizzes, results, uploaded files and images, your memberships in shared workspaces, the AI assistants you connected, and your sign-in. It cannot be undone.
- A workspace you created that has other members passes to one of them, so they keep access to it. A workspace with no other members is deleted.
- Notes and quizzes you added to a workspace someone else owns stay with that workspace.
- Deleting your account doesn’t cancel Cognition Pro. Cancel it in the App Store, in Google Play or in your web billing portal so you’re not charged again. Apple, Google and RevenueCat keep the record of past purchases, as the stores require.
Can’t sign in? Email questions@gigasoftware.io from the address on your account and we will delete the account, its data and its sign-in.
How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists, and delete them when you delete your account. We may keep information longer only where the law requires it, for example records of purchases. Records of connected AI assistants are kept for the shorter periods described under Connected AI Assistants.
Security of Your Personal Information
Your information is sent over encrypted connections and is stored with our providers under access controls that limit it to your account and the workspaces you share. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children’s Privacy
Cognition is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your Rights
You may ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or delete it as described above. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights. If you believe we have breached a data-protection law, contact us and we will investigate and respond in writing; you may also complain to your local data-protection authority.
Business Transfers
If we or our assets are acquired, or if we go out of business or enter bankruptcy, your personal information may be among the assets transferred to the acquiring party, which will be bound by this policy.
Links to Other Sites
Cognition may link to websites and services we do not operate. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and this policy does not apply once you leave Cognition.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as Cognition or the law changes. We will post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
